# What are the main emission sources at an aircraft MRO hangar?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/aircraft-mro-hangar-emissions

Engine ground runs burning jet fuel, hangar cooling or heating, compressed air and paint shop ovens are the usual sources. Fuel the MRO buys for engine tests is its Scope 1. Customer aircraft in flight are not part of it. Divide by checks or labour hours.

## Sources

- Jet fuel for engine ground runs, about 3.15 kg CO2 per kg.
- Electricity for hangars, tools and compressors.
- Paint shop fuel.
- Refrigerant and fire suppression gas losses.

## Fuel supplied by airlines

If the airline supplies fuel for a test run, agree in writing who reports it, so it is counted once.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads bills, fuel invoices and production records into dated, fingerprinted records, so the figure you send a buyer can be traced to its documents.
