# Can an EU importer deduct Argentina's carbon tax from CBAM?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/argentina-carbon-tax-cbam-deduction

Only for a carbon price actually paid on the embedded emissions, net of any rebate, and proven by the producer. Argentina taxes CO2 in liquid fuels and coal, but natural gas, the main industrial fuel, largely falls outside it, so the deductible amount is usually small.

## What a deduction needs

- The tax paid on fuels used to make the goods.
- A link from that tax to tonnes of embedded emissions.
- Any exemption or refund subtracted.

## Check the rate

The tax is set in pesos and adjusted over time. Use the rate actually paid in the period, from fuel invoices.

## Records

Fuel invoices showing the tax line, by plant and month.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible keeps each site's fuel, power and production records together, so the embedded emissions you send an EU importer trace back to dated documents.
