# How does a Ballari ore beneficiation plant work out electricity carbon per tonne?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/ballari-iron-ore-beneficiation-electricity-per-tonne

Divide the plant's metered kWh for crushing, grinding, screening and pumping by tonnes of concentrate produced, and multiply by 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh. Report per tonne of concentrate and per tonne of feed, because yield varies with ore grade.

## Inputs

- kWh from the HT bill and sub meters by section.
- Diesel for loaders and site gensets, at 2.68 kg CO2 per litre, as Scope 1.
- Tonnes of feed and concentrate from the weighbridge and plant log.

## Why yield matters

Low grade feed means more tonnes ground per tonne of concentrate. Showing both figures explains a month where carbon per tonne rose.

## Water and tailings

Pumping water and handling tailings draw power too. Meter them so savings from water recycling show up.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and diesel, LPG and gas invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a dated, fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record for each site. Intensity per unit uses the activity count you enter, and estimates are labelled as estimates.
