# How do I calculate the carbon footprint of a bank branch?

Add each branch's electricity at 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, generator diesel at 2.68 kg per litre and AC refrigerant top-ups. Sum branches for the operational footprint. Loans and investments are a separate figure, financed emissions in Scope 3 Category 15, not part of the branch number.

## Per branch

- Electricity from the branch bill, including ATMs on the same meter.
- Diesel for the generator.
- Refrigerant top-ups from AC service invoices.

## Rented premises

Most branches are rented. If the bank runs the space and pays the bill, the electricity is Scope 2 under operational control.

## Keep financed emissions apart

Emissions of borrowers and investee companies go in Category 15 under the PCAF method. Report them separately from the branch footprint.

## Worked example: one branch (one month, illustrative inputs)

- Electricity: 3,500 kWh x 0.710 = 2,485 kg CO2
- Diesel: 150 litres x 2.68 = 402 kg CO2
- Branch total: 2,887 kg CO2 a month, 34.6 t a year

Inputs are illustrative; repeat for each branch from its own bills.
