# What are the emissions of bauxite mining per tonne?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/bauxite-mining-emissions-per-tonne

Open-cast bauxite mining burns diesel in excavators, dumpers and dozers, which is Scope 1 at 2.68 kg CO2 per litre. Add blasting explosives, electricity for crushing and conveyors, and transport to the refinery. Divide by tonnes dispatched. Bauxite is not a CBAM good, but aluminium is.

## Per tonne

- Diesel litres from the mine's fuel issue register.
- Explosives used, by type.
- Electricity kWh × 0.710.
- Rail or road transport to the refinery.

## For refineries

Bauxite is Category 1 for the refinery; the mine's figure per tonne replaces a default.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads bills, fuel invoices and production records into dated, fingerprinted records, so the figure you send a buyer can be traced to its documents.
