Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/bee-energy-auditor-vs-energy-manager-exam

Both sit the same three written papers on energy management, thermal utilities and electrical utilities, 150 marks each. Auditors also sit a fourth, open book paper on performance assessment of equipment. Every paper needs at least 50 percent to pass.

## The papers

- Paper I: General aspects of energy management and energy audit, 3 hours, 150 marks.
- Paper II: Energy efficiency in thermal utilities, 3 hours, 150 marks.
- Paper III: Energy efficiency in electrical utilities, 3 hours, 150 marks.
- Paper IV: Energy performance assessment for equipment and utility systems, open book, 2 hours, 100 marks.

## Who sits what

- Energy manager: Papers I, II and III, with at least 50 percent in each.
- Energy auditor: all four papers, with at least 50 percent in each.
- Papers I to III are common to both.

## Study material

BEE publishes guide books for each paper and a question bank by topic on its energy auditors and managers page.

## Which one an employer needs

Designated consumers must appoint a certified energy manager. Mandatory energy audits must be done by an accredited energy auditor, which needs the auditor certificate plus experience and BEE accreditation.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible organises bills and fuel invoices into monthly records that energy managers and auditors can use as the measured base for their analysis.
