# What are the emissions from reeling tussar silk in Bhagalpur?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/bhagalpur-tussar-silk-reeling-emissions

Most of it is the fuel used to cook cocoons before reeling. Firewood gives biogenic CO2, reported separately, plus small methane and nitrous oxide in Scope 1. LPG or coal cooking is fossil CO2. Count the reeling machine's electricity at 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh.

## Where the emissions are

- Cooking cocoons in hot water: firewood, LPG or coal.
- Electric or pedal reeling machines.
- Drying the reeled yarn, if done with heat.

## Records to keep

Fuel bought per month, kilograms of cocoons cooked and kilograms of yarn reeled. That gives a fuel figure per kg of yarn you can show a buyer.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads the energy invoices behind the making stage into a fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record, and keeps material invoices on the Scope 3 trail. Material factors come from your supplier or a named database and are labelled with their source, so the product figure can be traced line by line.
