# A Bhilwara textile mill runs its own coal power plant: how does that change its footprint?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/bhilwara-textile-mill-captive-thermal-power

Coal burned in your captive plant is Scope 1, counted from tonnes and calorific value on your coal invoices. Power you then use is not Scope 2 again. Per kWh, an old small coal unit is often worse than the grid at 0.710 kg, so the comparison is worth making.

## Records

- Coal or lignite invoices with tonnes and GCV.
- Units generated and units used by the mill.
- Any power sold or wheeled to the grid.

## Per kWh check

1. Coal CO2 ÷ units generated = your own kg per kWh.
2. Compare with the grid factor, 0.710 on CEA v21.0.
3. Add open access solar or wind to see the mix.

## For buyers

Brands ask for footprint per kg of yarn or per metre of fabric. Captive coal often decides it, so show it separately.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel, electricity and freight invoices into a dated, fingerprinted record per site, so each figure you send a buyer traces back to the documents behind it.
