# Our electricity bills are still in the old company name after a merger. Can we count them?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/bills-in-old-company-name-after-merger

Yes. What matters is that the site sits inside your reporting boundary, not the name printed on the bill. Keep the merger or name-change document next to the bills, and recalculate your base year if the merger brought in a large new site.

## Show the link

- The board resolution, merger order or name-change certificate.
- The consumer number on the bill, matched to the site you now run.

## Base year

A merger is a structural change. If it shifts your total materially, the GHG Protocol asks you to restate the base year as if the site had always been yours.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible keeps each figure tied to its invoice, factor and method version, so a verifier can trace any number back to the document it came from.
