# How do we report diesel for our DG set in BRSR?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/brsr-dg-set-diesel-energy-and-scope-1

Count the diesel twice in different places, but the electricity never. Diesel goes into total energy from non-renewable sources, in gigajoules, and into Scope 1 emissions at about 2.68 kg CO2 per litre. The units the DG set produces are not added again as electricity, or both energy and emissions are double counted.

## Energy

Litres times density times net calorific value gives gigajoules. Report it under fuel from non-renewable sources, not under electricity.

## Emissions

Litres times the diesel factor gives Scope 1. Include diesel for forklifts and company vehicles too, but keep hired transport out.

## Evidence

- Diesel invoices or the tank issue register.
- DG run hours and meter readings, to sense-check litres per unit generated.
- The factor and calorific value used, with their source.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel invoices, gas bills and delivery documents into dated, fingerprinted records, so each tonne of CO2 traces back to the document behind it.
