# What does BRSR mean by the percentage of value chain partners assessed for environmental impacts?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/brsr-value-chain-environment-assessment-share

It is Principle 6 leadership indicator 9: the percentage of value chain partners, by value of business done with them, that were assessed for environmental impacts. Leadership indicator 8 asks for significant adverse environmental impacts from the value chain and the steps taken.

## How to compute it

1. Total the value of business with all value chain partners.
2. Total the value of business with partners you assessed: a questionnaire with evidence, a site audit, or their own verified report.
3. Divide the second by the first.

## What counts as an assessment

SEBI does not prescribe one. A filled questionnaire backed by bills or permits is more defensible than a self-declaration with no documents. State your method next to the percentage.

## For suppliers

If you send your customer energy, emissions, water and waste figures with evidence, you move into the assessed share. That makes you easier to keep on an approved vendor list.

## Worked example

- Business with value chain partners: Rs 400 crore.
- Partners assessed with documents: Rs 260 crore.
- Share assessed = 260 / 400 = 65%.

Illustrative figures.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible turns a supplier's electricity bills and fuel invoices into Scope 1 and 2 figures for the financial year, with each bill linked to its line, so a customer's questionnaire can be answered from records. Figures are self-declared.
