# What makes up the carbon footprint of a bus stand?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/bus-stand-terminal-carbon-footprint

Electricity for lighting, fans, display boards and offices is the main part, at 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, with diesel for backup generators. Bus fuel burned while idling at the bays belongs to the bus operator's Scope 1, not the terminal's.

## Sources

- Scope 2: terminal electricity.
- Scope 1: generator diesel, refrigerant top ups for AC offices.
- Not the terminal's: bus fuel, unless the corporation owns both.

## Idling

Idling rules cut the operator's fuel, so report them in the operator's figures.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and diesel, LPG and gas invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a dated, fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record for each site. Intensity per unit uses the activity count you enter, and estimates are labelled as estimates.
