# A buyer asks if we are net zero. What should we say if we are not?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/buyer-asks-are-you-net-zero

Say no, and say what you do have: your measured footprint, the year, and the steps you are taking. Net zero means cutting emissions deeply and removing what is left, so very few companies can claim it today. An honest no with a real figure reads better than a vague yes.

## A reply that works

We are not net zero. Our Scope 1 and 2 emissions for 2025-26 were X tonnes CO2e, measured from our bills. We are working on Y and will update you next year.

## Do not

- Claim net zero because you bought some credits.
- Promise a date nobody has planned for.
- Confuse carbon neutral with net zero.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible keeps each figure behind a claim traceable to the invoices and bills it came from, so a reader can check the number rather than take the wording on trust.
