# A buyer's RFQ asks for a carbon figure per unit. What do we put?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/buyer-asks-carbon-figure-in-rfq

Give a cradle-to-gate figure per unit from your last 12 months of bills and production, with the boundary stated. If you have not measured it, give a clearly labelled estimate and the date you will have a measured figure. A number you cannot back up can cost you the contract later.

## What to include

- Figure per unit and the unit used.
- Boundary: own operations only, or including materials.
- Period and data source.
- Whether it is measured or estimated.

## If time is short

Use your energy bills for Scope 1 and 2 per unit now, and add materials later. Say which parts are in.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads bills, fuel invoices and production records into dated, fingerprinted records, so the figure you send a buyer can be traced to its documents.
