# A buyer wants our Scope 1 and 2 split by product line. How do we do it fairly?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/buyer-asks-scope-1-2-split-by-product-line

Split each source by what actually uses it: sub-meters for electricity where you have them, machine hours or output weight where you do not. Assign dedicated fuels to the line that burns them. Write down the basis so it stays the same each year.

## Electricity

- Sub-meter readings by line.
- Otherwise motor ratings times running hours.
- Shared loads like lighting by floor area or output.

## Fuels

A furnace or boiler serving one line goes to that line; shared boilers by steam use or output.

## Consistency

Use the same basis for every buyer and every year, and say what it is.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads bills, fuel invoices and production records into dated, fingerprinted records, so the figure you send a buyer can be traced to its documents.
