# If my plant captures CO2, can I subtract it from Scope 1?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/captured-co2-how-to-report-ghg-inventory

Report gross Scope 1 first. Show CO2 captured and permanently stored, or sold on, as a separate line with its destination. CO2 sold for drinks or chemicals is released later, so it is not a removal. Never net it out silently; buyers and verifiers will ask.

## What to disclose

- Gross Scope 1 before capture.
- Tonnes captured, and where they went: storage, sale or use.
- Energy used by the capture unit, in Scope 1 or 2.

## Common traps

- Calling CO2 sold to a bottler a removal.
- Counting capture without measured flows.
- Leaving out the capture unit's own fuel and power.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible keeps each bill and invoice behind every figure, dated and fingerprinted, so a reviewer can trace a number back to the document it came from.
