# Do we count our own aluminium scrap that we remelt in our cast house in the CBAM figure?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/cbam-aluminium-internal-scrap-remelted

Not as a precursor. Scrap made and remelted inside your own installation is part of your own production loop: count the fuel used to remelt it, and do not add the scrap again as an input. Count only aluminium that leaves as product.

## Why not count it twice

Internal scrap was already counted when the metal first entered the installation. Adding it again as an input would double count the same aluminium.

## What does count

- Fuel for remelting furnaces and holding furnaces.
- Unwrought aluminium bought in, as a precursor.
- Scrap bought from outside, which carries zero embedded emissions.

## Records

Track metal in and out of the cast house: purchased ingot, outside scrap, internal scrap and finished output. A simple monthly balance shows the verifier nothing is counted twice.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel, electricity and production documents into dated, fingerprinted installation records, the starting point for the actual emissions an EU importer asks for.
