# Are steel angles, channels and beams under CN 7216 covered by CBAM?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/cbam-cn-7216-angles-channels-beams

Yes. Angles, shapes and sections of iron or non-alloy steel, CN 7216, are covered under the Chapter 72 line. Direct emissions only. Structural mills rolling bought billets pass on the billet maker's figure and add their reheating furnace fuel per tonne of section.

## Is it covered?

Yes. CN 7216 covers angles, shapes and sections, hot-rolled or cold-formed. Fabricated structures made from them are a different code, 7308, which is also covered under Chapter 73.

## Precursors to report

- The billet, bloom or beam blank you rolled from, with its maker's embedded emissions per tonne.
- Pig iron, DRI and covered ferro-alloys, if you make your own steel.

## Default value

The Commission sets default values by CN code and country of origin in the annex to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/2621, with a mark-up that rises over the first years. We do not quote the figure here. Open the annex, find your code and India, and treat it as the number your buyer pays on if you send nothing usable.

## What to send your EU importer

- Direct embedded emissions per tonne of section, in tonnes of CO2, for the period the importer asks about.
- The production route and the installation's name, location and, if registered, its CBAM registry ID.
- Each precursor's embedded emissions and quantity per tonne, and who made it if you bought it.
- Whether a verifier accredited for CBAM has checked the figure. The importer can only use actual values that are verified.

## The common mistake

Mixing up 7216 and 7308. A plain rolled channel is 7216; a drilled, welded truss or frame is 7308. Both are covered, but the code on your invoice must match what the EU customs declaration will say, or the figures will not tie up.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel, electricity and purchase invoices into dated, fingerprinted installation records, the starting point for the actual emissions an EU importer asks for. It does not file CBAM declarations or verify emissions.
