# What is the CBAM default value for cast iron pipe fittings exported from India?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/cbam-default-value-india-cast-iron-pipe-fittings

Indian fittings of non-malleable cast iron, CN 7307 11, and of other cast iron, 7307 19 10, carry a CBAM default of 3.859 t CO2e per tonne. Cast steel fittings under 7307 19 90 carry 4.320. Direct emissions only, before the 10% mark-up for 2026.

## India default values, t CO2e per tonne

- 7307 11 fittings of non-malleable cast iron: 3.859
- 7307 19 10 fittings of other cast iron, including malleable: 3.859
- 7307 19 90 cast steel fittings: 4.320
- Indirect emissions: not applicable

## Mark-up on top

Default values are raised by a mark-up: 10% in 2026, 20% in 2027 and 30% from 2028. Goods imported in 2026 take the 2026 mark-up.

## What drives a foundry's actual figure

- Pig iron in the charge is a precursor: India's default for pig iron is 2.530 t per tonne, before mark-up, unless your supplier gives a verified figure.
- Scrap and foundry returns carry no embedded emissions.
- Cupola coke, and gas or oil for ladle preheating and heat treatment, are your direct emissions.
- Induction furnace electricity is not counted for iron and steel goods.

## Records to keep

Charge sheets with pig iron and scrap per melt, coke and fuel invoices, and good castings despatched. Melt yield matters: each tonne of fittings carries the precursor of every tonne melted for it, including runners and rejects.

## Example: pig iron inside one tonne of fittings, 2026

- Metal melted: 1.6 t per tonne of good fittings
- Pig iron at 30% of the charge: 1.6 x 0.30 = 0.48 t
- Pig iron on its default: 0.48 x 2.530 x 1.10 = 1.34 t CO2e
- Fitting default with mark-up: 3.859 x 1.10 = 4.24 t CO2e
- Add your cupola coke and fuel to the first figure and compare

Example charge mix and yield.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads coal, coke, gas, electricity and freight invoices into a dated record per site, so an actual figure you send an EU buyer traces back to the documents behind it. We build it from your records, check every figure in-house, and an accredited verifier we partner with signs it off. Have your own verifier? Send it to them.
