# What is the CBAM default value for steel pipes and tubes from India?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/cbam-default-value-india-steel-pipes-tubes

Most Indian carbon steel pipes and tubes under CN 7304, 7305 and 7306 carry 4.320 t CO2e per tonne. Stainless line pipe, casing and tubing carry 6.490 or 6.500. Cast iron pipes under CN 7303 carry 2.840. Direct emissions only, plus the 2026 mark-up of 10%.

## India default values, t CO2e per tonne

- CN 7303 cast iron tubes and pipes: 2.840
- CN 7304 non-welded, carbon steel (such as 7304 19, 7304 31, 7304 39): 4.320
- CN 7304 non-welded, stainless (such as 7304 11 00, 7304 41 00): 6.490
- CN 7305 large welded pipes over 406.4 mm: 4.320
- CN 7306 welded, carbon steel (such as 7306 30 and 7306 61 92): 4.320
- CN 7306 welded, stainless (such as 7306 40 20, 7306 61 10): 6.500

## Mark-up on top

The listed values are increased by a mark-up: 10% for 2026, 20% for 2027 and 30% from 2028. Goods imported in 2026 always take the 2026 mark-up.

## Pipe makers buying coil

A welded pipe mill buying HR coil can use the coil maker's verified figure as its precursor value instead of a default, then add its own forming and welding energy. Ask for the coil figure in the purchase contract.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads coal, coke, gas, electricity and freight invoices into a dated, fingerprinted record per site, so an actual figure you send an EU buyer can be traced back to the documents behind it. It does not file CBAM declarations.
