# Do ferroalloys added in steelmaking count in the steel's CBAM figure?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/cbam-ferroalloy-additions-in-steel-precursor

Yes, where they are covered alloys. Ferro-manganese, ferro-chromium and ferro-nickel are relevant precursors for crude steel, so their embedded emissions are added in proportion to the tonnes used. Alloys outside CBAM, such as ferro-silicon or silico-manganese, are not added as precursors, though their carbon still enters a mass balance.

## What to collect

- Tonnes of each alloy used per heat or per month.
- The alloy maker's embedded emissions, or the default value.
- Carbon content of each alloy for the mass balance.

## Why it matters

For stainless and alloy grades, ferro-chromium and ferro-nickel can add a large share of the final figure.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel, power and production records into dated, fingerprinted installation records, the starting point for the actual emissions your EU importer asks for.
