# What is a CBAM installation ID, and which Indian company number goes in it?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/cbam-installation-id-format-india-cin

It is the permanent code that ties your plant to its emissions and verification reports, in the form IN-12345678-0001: country code, operator ID, then a sequence number the CBAM Registry assigns. For an Indian company the operator ID rests on its CIN; for an LLP, its LLPIN. Never invent the sequence yourself.

## Reading IN-12345678-0001

- IN: the country where the operator is based.
- 12345678: the operator's official registration number in its national company register, checked against official documents. With the country code in front, this is the operator ID.
- 0001: a sequence number generated by the Registry for each installation. A company with three plants gets three installation IDs under one operator ID.
- Once issued, the ID is unique and permanent. It cannot be changed, and it is never reused under any circumstances.

## Which Indian number counts

The Commission's registration guide for non-EU operators names the Corporate Identification Number (CIN) for Indian companies and the LLP Identification Number (LLPIN) for limited liability partnerships. Both appear on your certificate of incorporation and on the MCA records. GSTIN, PAN and IEC are not the numbers named for India.

If your unit is a proprietorship or partnership firm with neither a CIN nor an LLPIN, the guidance gives no Indian example. Ask your verifier or the CBAM Registry support before you fill the field.

## Your plant has no ID yet: what happens

1. In the Commission's Excel emissions report, fill in the operator ID and leave the installation ID blank.
2. Give the verifier your company registration certificate showing the CIN or LLPIN, with company details in Latin characters. If any part is in a regional language, add an English translation.
3. Give a list of every plant that makes CBAM goods: name, address, UN/LOCODE and map coordinates.
4. The verifier checks your operator ID against the certificate and searches the Registry, so the same plant is not created twice by another verifier.
5. The Registry creates the installation ID, or the verifier confirms an existing one with you.
6. You enter the ID in the emissions report before verification goes further.

## Register yourself, or let the verifier do it

You may register as an operator in the CBAM Registry; you then receive the installation ID and exchange reports with the verifier inside the Registry. Registration is not compulsory, at least for the 2026 reporting period. The Commission recommends it, because otherwise you must send your full emissions report, with no protection for sensitive figures, and the e-signed verification PDF to each importer yourself.

## Mistakes that slow verification

- Company name spelt differently on the certificate, the invoice and the emissions report. Agree one Latin spelling.
- Two verifiers creating separate IDs for the same plant because the address was written two ways.
- Using a group company's CIN when the plant belongs to a subsidiary. The operator ID follows the legal entity that runs the plant.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible's CBAM Suite keeps your installation details, production processes and goods by CN code in one workbook and exports the operator emissions report in the structure of the Commission template, so the IDs you receive go into one place. Senseible does not issue installation IDs; only the CBAM Registry does.
