# How will CCTS carbon credit certificates trade on India's power exchanges?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/ccts-certificate-trading-power-exchange

Under BEE's October 2026 draft procedure, buyers and sellers bid on CERC-registered power exchanges in a closed, double-sided auction with one uniform clearing price per session. The registry checks sellers hold the certificates first. Bilateral deals, even within a corporate group, are not allowed.

## How a session works in the draft

1. Registered entities place sell or buy bids on one or more power exchanges.
2. After the window closes, each exchange sends sell bids to the Grid-India registry.
3. The registry checks each seller's total bids across exchanges against the certificates in its account.
4. The exchange discovers the market clearing price and volume by closed double-sided uniform price auction.
5. The registry debits sellers and credits buyers, and exchanges publish results and demand-supply curves.

## Rules worth knowing

- Entities registered on the ICM portal are registered with the registry automatically.
- Issued certificates are credited to a plant's account after it pays a crediting fee set by CERC.
- A seller whose bids exceed its holdings is treated as a defaulter for that session; more than three defaults in a quarter bars it for six months.
- The underlying CERC regulations on purchase and sale of certificates were issued on 27 February 2026.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible does not trade certificates. It keeps the plant-level energy records behind the emissions figure.
