# Can an Andaman or Lakshadweep factory use CEA's Indian grid emission factor?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/cea-grid-factor-andaman-lakshadweep-factory

No. CEA's CO2 Baseline Database leaves out stations in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep because they are not connected to the Indian grid. Their power systems are stand-alone, so the national 0.675 kg per kWh for FY 2025-26 does not describe them.

## What CEA says

- The regional grid table marks Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep with an asterisk.
- The note says they are not connected to the national grid and are served by stand-alone systems.
- The list of power stations not in the database includes stations or units in both, for the same reason.

## What follows

The Indian grid factor is the weighted average of the grid your mainland plant draws from. An island plant draws from a different system, so using that factor applies a number from a grid it is not on.

## What to do instead

1. Ask your electricity supplier whether it publishes an emission rate for the year.
2. If it does not, tell the buyer, state which factor you used and why, and keep the bills.
3. Count any diesel your own generator burns as Scope 1, from the fuel invoices.

## Do not

Do not apply 0.675 silently and call it the island figure.

## What the wrong number looks like (made-up bill)

- Island unit: 100,000 kWh in the year.
- Mainland factor applied: 100,000 x 0.675 = 67,500 kg, or 67.5 t.
- That 67.5 t is not an island figure. Report the kWh, and the factor source you chose.

Example only.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible's calculators apply the CEA grid factor to a bill by financial year, 0.675 kg CO2 per kWh for FY 2025-26. Do not rely on it for island bills; say so in the report.
