# Which scope does a chartered flight fall in?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/charter-flight-emissions-which-scope

If you charter an aircraft with the operator's crew, the operator burns the fuel, so it is your Scope 3 Category 6. If your company owns or leases and operates the aircraft, the fuel is your Scope 1. Ask the operator for fuel burned; jet fuel is about 3.15 kg CO2 per kg.

## Best data

- Fuel burned on your flights, from the operator.
- If not available, block hours times the aircraft's typical burn rate.
- Empty positioning legs flown for you count too.

## Helicopters

The same rule applies: whoever operates the aircraft has the Scope 1.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads bills, fuel invoices and production records into dated, fingerprinted records, so the figure you send a buyer can be traced to its documents.
