# How does a ferroalloy plant count the emissions of manganese ore from Chiatura?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/chiatura-manganese-ore-mine-scope-3

If you do not run the mine, the ore is Scope 3 purchased goods: mining diesel, electricity for washing and concentrating, and freight to your plant. If your group runs the mine, those emissions are your own Scope 1 and 2. Ore is not a CBAM precursor for ferro-manganese.

## What the mine adds

- Diesel for underground and open pit equipment.
- Electricity for washing and beneficiation.
- Rail freight to the smelter.

## Control decides scope

Emissions follow control under the GHG Protocol. Same group and operated by you: Scope 1 and 2. Bought ore: Scope 3, category 1.

## For CBAM

CBAM counts the smelter's direct emissions and listed precursors. Manganese ore is not listed, so it stays out of the CBAM figure.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible turns supplier invoices into a Scope 3 record with the supplier, quantity and factor behind every figure, so you can see which supplier data is still missing.
