# Can a Chilean exporter deduct Chile's green tax from CBAM?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/chile-carbon-tax-cbam-deduction

Only for CBAM goods, and only for tax actually paid on the emissions behind them, with proof and independent certification. Chile's tax, about US$5 per tonne on large emitters, mostly hits power and mining, and copper is not a CBAM good, so few exports qualify.

## Who it applies to

Large stationary sources above the law's thresholds pay per tonne of CO2. Check the current rate and thresholds.

## What counts

- Tax paid on the installation's emissions, per tonne of goods exported.
- Not offsets used to reduce the bill.
- Certified by an independent person.

## Copper

Copper cathode is outside CBAM, so there is nothing to deduct from. Copper buyers ask for footprints for their own reporting instead.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible keeps each site's fuel, power and production records together, so the embedded emissions you send an EU importer trace back to dated documents.
