# How much CO2 does pressing coconut oil emit per litre?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/coconut-oil-expeller-co2-per-litre

Expellers and filters run on electricity: kWh times 0.710 kg CO2, divided by litres of oil. Copra drying before pressing is usually larger and belongs to whoever dries it. Packaging and freight are Scope 3.

## Records

- Expeller and filter press electricity.
- Litres or kg of oil produced, and cake sold.
- Copra purchases with the drier's fuel if you can get it.

## Oil cake

Cake is a co product. Split emissions between oil and cake by mass or value, and say which.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads the plant's electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and fuel invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record, the plant-level input to a per-unit figure. Bought-in materials go to the supplier evidence trail; product reports are self-declared drafts.
