# Does a Coimbatore pump exporter need an EPD for European buyers?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/coimbatore-pump-exporter-epd-for-buyers

No EU law requires one for pumps today, but some buyers and tenders ask for it. An EPD under ISO 14025 is a verified, standard-format declaration built on product category rules. A carbon footprint under ISO 14067 is smaller in scope and often enough for a buyer's Scope 3.

## Which to offer

- Carbon footprint (ISO 14067): one impact, faster to build, often accepted for Scope 3.
- EPD (ISO 14025): many impacts, built on a product category rule and verified by a third party, often asked for in public tenders.

## What both need

Energy bills for the plant, metal and copper purchases by weight, and the use-phase assumptions a pump footprint depends on. Use phase usually dominates for pumps, so state the duty cycle you assumed.

## Not CBAM

Pumps under 8413 are not CBAM goods, so no embedded emissions figure is required at the EU border.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads the energy invoices behind the making stage into a fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record, and keeps material invoices on the Scope 3 trail. Material factors come from your supplier or a named database and are labelled with their source, so the product figure can be traced line by line.
