# What should a contractor ask suppliers for in an EPD?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/contractor-epd-request-from-suppliers

Ask for a product-specific EPD for the plant that supplies you, verified by a third party and still valid, with the product category rule it follows and the declared unit. Use the A1 to A3 figure for purchased materials, and check the unit matches what you buy.

## Check on every EPD

- Product and plant named, not an industry average, unless you accept an average.
- Declared unit, such as per tonne or per cubic metre.
- Product category rule and the standard it follows (ISO 14025, EN 15804 for construction).
- Third-party verification and the validity date.

## Using it

Multiply your purchased quantity by the A1 to A3 global warming figure. Keep the EPD file with the purchase order for audit.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads the energy invoices behind the making stage into a fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record, and keeps material invoices on the Scope 3 trail. Material factors come from your supplier or a named database and are labelled with their source, so the product figure can be traced line by line.
