# How much CO2 does a Dar es Salaam mill melting scrap emit per tonne of bar?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/dar-es-salaam-steel-rolling-mill-scrap-co2

Most of it comes from electricity for the induction furnace and rolling, plus fuel for the reheating furnace. Multiply kWh per tonne by the Tanzania grid factor for the year and add fuel invoices converted to CO2. Scrap itself carries no embedded emissions under CBAM, but bought billets do.

## Records

- Electricity bills with kWh.
- Furnace oil, coal or gas invoices for reheating.
- Production in tonnes per month.

## Bought billets

If you roll imported billets, their embedded emissions come with them. Ask the supplier per tonne.

## Exports to the EU

Rebar is a CBAM good. Electricity is reported, not charged, for steel; direct emissions decide the charge.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel, electricity and freight invoices into a dated, fingerprinted record per site, so each figure you send a buyer traces back to the documents behind it.
