# How much CO2 does a Dhanbad hard coke plant emit per tonne of coke?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/dhanbad-hard-coke-plant-co2-per-tonne

Use a carbon balance: carbon in the coal charged, minus carbon leaving in coke, breeze and any tar sold, times 44/12. In non recovery ovens most volatile matter burns on site, so that carbon becomes your CO2. Test coal and coke for carbon instead of using a flat factor.

## Records

- Coal charged per batch and its carbon content.
- Coke and breeze produced and their carbon content.
- Fuel used to start or heat ovens.
- Electricity bills.

## Heat recovery ovens

If oven gas raises steam for power, the CO2 is the same but you buy less grid power. Count the burning once, in Scope 1.

## Buyers

Coke itself is not a CBAM good, but foundries and steel mills that use it will ask for its footprint as a precursor or Scope 3 input.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel, electricity and freight invoices into a dated, fingerprinted record per site, so each figure you send a buyer traces back to the documents behind it.
