# Some of our diesel was stolen. Do we still count it as our emissions?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/diesel-theft-or-pilferage-emissions

Only fuel you burn is your Scope 1. Stolen diesel is not, but you need evidence: a police complaint, a stock register showing the loss, or an insurance claim. Without that, a verifier will expect you to count all fuel bought, which is the safer choice.

## When you can exclude it

- A dated police complaint or FIR naming the quantity.
- A stock register showing the gap between stock and use.
- An insurance claim for the lost fuel.

## When you cannot

Unexplained gaps between purchases and use are treated as consumption. Write down the reason for any exclusion so it survives review.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible keeps each figure tied to its invoice, factor and method version, so a verifier can trace any number back to the document it came from.
