# Can we use our discom's own fuel mix instead of the CEA grid factor?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/discom-fuel-mix-instead-of-cea-grid-factor

For the location-based figure, no: use the grid average, which in India is the CEA factor. For the market-based figure, a supplier-specific rate can be used if it meets the GHG Protocol Scope 2 quality criteria, such as covering your exact supply and not being double counted. Few Indian discoms publish one.

## What a usable supplier rate needs

- Published by the supplier for the period.
- Based on delivered electricity, not capacity.
- Excludes renewable attributes sold to others.

## If you have none

Report location-based with the CEA factor, and market-based using certificates you hold or a residual mix approach.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel invoices and electricity bills and applies IPCC 2006 factors and the CEA grid factor (0.710 kg CO2 per kWh), so you can compare Scope 1 and 2 before and after a change from the documents themselves.
