# What is the carbon footprint of a dry cleaning shop?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/dry-cleaning-shop-carbon-footprint

Electricity for machines, steam and pressing usually dominates, with boiler fuel if steam is raised on site. Most dry cleaning solvents are not greenhouse gases, but losses of any HFC or other gas covered by the GHG Protocol count in Scope 1.

## Inputs

- Electricity bills.
- LPG, diesel or PNG for the boiler.
- Solvent bought, with its type.

## Per garment

Divide monthly emissions by garments cleaned from your billing records.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and diesel, LPG and gas invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a dated, fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record for each site. Intensity per unit uses the activity count you enter, and estimates are labelled as estimates.
