# What CBAM figure applies to hot-rolled coil from the Dung Quat blast furnace complex?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/dung-quat-steel-hot-rolled-coil-cbam

A blast furnace route figure built from the complex's own coke, sinter, pig iron and steelmaking data, often close to 2 tonnes of CO2 per tonne of coil. EU importers need the plant's specific figure per product; Vietnam's pilot carbon market gives no deduction while allowances are free.

## What goes in

- Coke making, sintering and blast furnace emissions carried as precursors.
- Converter and rolling mill direct emissions.
- Not electricity, which is outside the charged figure for steel.

## Ask for the right number

The mill should give specific embedded emissions per tonne of coil for a stated period. A company-wide average that mixes long products and coil hides the real figure for your product.

## Vietnam's carbon market

Vietnam has started a pilot carbon market covering steel, cement and thermal power with free allowances. A deduction needs a price effectively paid, so the pilot alone usually gives none.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel, electricity and production documents into dated, fingerprinted installation records, the starting point for the actual emissions an EU importer asks for.
