# Our year closes before some fuel invoices arrive. How do we count those emissions?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/emissions-accrual-before-invoices-arrive

Count emissions in the period the fuel was received or used, not when the invoice comes. Use the delivery challan, tank dip or meter reading to estimate the quantity at year end, label it as an estimate, and replace it with the invoice figure when it arrives.

## Evidence for the estimate

- Delivery challan or gate entry with quantity.
- Tank dip or meter reading on the last day.
- Purchase order with agreed quantity.

## True-up

When the invoice arrives, correct the figure. If the difference is material and the report has gone out, note the correction next year.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible fingerprints every invoice and bill it reads, so the same document is never counted twice, and each emission line links back to the page, quantity and factor it came from.
