# Have Indian rock weathering projects issued carbon credits yet?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/enhanced-rock-weathering-india-credits

Yes. Varaha's basalt project on black cotton soils in central India is certified under the Puro Standard, and its Puro facility page lists CORCs issued in 2025 and 2026. Frontier's portfolio also shows delivered tonnes from Alt Carbon in Darjeeling and Mati on Indian rice paddies, both under prepurchases.

## Projects with issued or delivered tonnes

- Varaha, central India: crushed basalt, a by-product of making sand for construction and sourced locally, spread on farmland from early 2024. Certified under the Puro Standard, with CORCs issued in 2025 and 2026.
- Alt Carbon, Darjeeling: basalt on tea estates, using metal tracers in soil to measure weathering. A Frontier prepurchase from 2024 with tonnes delivered.
- Mati: rock powder on rice paddies in India, measured with extensive sampling and soil and river modelling. A Frontier prepurchase from 2023 with tonnes delivered.

## Registries in play

- Puro.earth: Varaha's CORCs carry the 1,000+ year durability label.
- Isometric: Varaha chose it in July 2025 for enhanced weathering on smallholder cotton farms in India. Its protocol needs control and treatment plots and a weathering signal at 95% confidence.

## Why so few so far

Weathering is slow and has to be measured in soil and water, not just modelled, so issuance comes in small volumes at first. Puro.earth's APAC review says faster growth in the region depends largely on whether ERW in India scales as projected.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible's offline field app maps each plot and keeps geotagged photos and each farmer's recorded consent, so field evidence reaches the verifier evidence pack intact.
