# What makes up the carbon footprint of epoxy resin?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/epoxy-resin-carbon-footprint-per-kg

Raw materials dominate: bisphenol A and epichlorohydrin, both made from petrochemicals, with chlorine in epichlorohydrin. The resin plant's own fuel and power are a smaller part. Ask suppliers for cradle to gate figures per kg and report purchased resin in Scope 3 Category 1.

## For the resin maker

- Bisphenol A and epichlorohydrin bought, per kg of resin.
- Steam and electricity for reaction and solvent recovery.
- Waste and wastewater treatment.

## For buyers

Use the supplier's cradle to gate figure where you have one, with its date and method. Where you do not, a secondary factor is an estimate and should be labelled as one.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads your electricity bills, fuel invoices and purchase invoices into dated, fingerprinted records, so a per unit footprint can be traced back to the documents behind it. Estimates are labelled as estimates.
