Keep, for each delivery, the plantation it came from, the forest management plan or certification, the official forest origin transport document, and the tonnes and carbon content. Without that trail a buyer or verifier will treat the charcoal carbon as fossil, which can multiply the pig iron figure several times.

## For each charcoal delivery

- Supplier and the plantation or land parcel, with ownership or lease documents.
- The forest origin transport record issued for the load.
- Weighbridge tonnage and a carbon content test, monthly at least.

## For the plantations

- A forest management plan showing replanting after harvest.
- FSC or another recognised certification, where held.
- Evidence the land was not cleared native forest.

## Why it decides the number

Charcoal is the main reductant in these blast furnaces. Counted as sustainable biomass its CO2 can be rated zero; counted as fossil it becomes the largest source in the figure.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads coal, coke, gas and electricity invoices and production records into a dated, fingerprinted record per site, so the direct emissions behind each tonne can be traced to the documents. Emissions factors outside India are entered from the official source and labelled.
