# What are the CO2 emissions of singeing fabric per metre?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/fabric-singeing-gas-emissions-per-metre

Singeing burns off surface fibres with gas flames, so the gas burned is Scope 1. Divide the singeing machine's gas use by metres processed, then multiply by the factor: 2.98 kg CO2 per kg of LPG, or the IPCC natural gas default for PNG. Add the machine's electricity.

## Records

- Gas meter or LPG cylinder log for the machine.
- Metres singed, from the production register.
- Machine kWh.

## Reduce

Burner tuning and switching off flames during stops lower gas per metre.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and diesel, LPG and gas invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a dated, fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record for each site. Intensity per unit uses the activity count you enter, and estimates are labelled as estimates.
