# Should we count on a cleaner grid to meet our reduction target?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/falling-grid-factor-and-reduction-targets

You can expect it, but report it honestly. India plans a much larger share of non-fossil power, so the CEA grid factor should fall over time. Your Scope 2 will drop even if you do nothing. Show how much of each year's fall came from the grid factor and how much from your own actions.

## How to report progress

- Emissions at this year's factor.
- Emissions at the base year factor, to isolate your own action.
- The difference, labelled as the grid effect.

## When setting the target

Do not plan on the grid alone. Buyers and lenders look for efficiency, fuel switching and renewable power you control.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel invoices and electricity bills and applies IPCC 2006 factors and the CEA grid factor (0.710 kg CO2 per kWh), so you can compare Scope 1 and 2 before and after a change from the documents themselves.
