# What is the carbon footprint of fish and shrimp feed?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/fish-feed-carbon-footprint-per-tonne

Ingredients usually make up most of it: soybean meal, fish meal, fish oil, wheat and rice bran. Mill steam for pelleting or extrusion, drying and electricity add the rest. Farms count it in Scope 3 Category 1, where it is often their largest line.

## At the mill

- Ingredient tonnes per tonne of feed.
- Boiler fuel and electricity.
- Bags and transport to farms.

## On the farm

Feed conversion ratio links feed to fish: kg of feed per kg of fish harvested. A lower ratio cuts the footprint per kg.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads your electricity bills, fuel invoices and purchase invoices into dated, fingerprinted records, so a per unit footprint can be traced back to the documents behind it. Estimates are labelled as estimates.
