# What is the carbon footprint of frozen french fries?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/frozen-french-fries-carbon-footprint-per-kg

Potatoes, frying oil and the energy to blanch, fry and freeze make up most of it. Freezing and cold storage electricity at 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh is large in India. Divide by kg packed, and count peel and trim losses in the potatoes bought.

## Inputs

- Potatoes bought per kg of fries packed.
- Frying oil used.
- Boiler fuel for blanching and fryers.
- Electricity for freezing tunnels and cold rooms.

## Refrigerants

Leaks from freezing plant refrigerants count in Scope 1 at their GWP. Ammonia systems have none.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads your electricity bills, fuel invoices and purchase invoices into dated, fingerprinted records, so a per unit footprint can be traced back to the documents behind it. Estimates are labelled as estimates.
