# Do we count fuel burned while commissioning or testing new equipment?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/fuel-burned-in-commissioning-trials

Yes. Fuel burned in equipment you control is Scope 1 whatever the purpose: commissioning a boiler, test runs of a furnace or engine trials. If the supplier ran the trial with their own fuel, it is their emissions, so check who paid for and controlled the fuel.

## Who counts it

- Your fuel, your equipment, your site: your Scope 1.
- Supplier's fuel during a trial they run: their emissions.
- Fuel you pay for that the supplier burns for you: yours.

## Record it

Note trial fuel separately. It explains a spike in the month and keeps it out of your per-unit intensity if no output was made.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible keeps each figure tied to its invoice, factor and method version, so a verifier can trace any number back to the document it came from.
