# How do I report CO2 from burning wood offcuts in a furniture factory boiler?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/furniture-factory-wood-waste-boiler-biogenic-co2

Report the CO2 from wood as biogenic, outside Scopes 1, 2 and 3, and show it separately. Methane and nitrous oxide from the fire do count in Scope 1, using IPCC defaults for wood. Keep a log of tonnes burnt and any fossil fuel used to start or support the boiler.

## What to log

- Tonnes of wood waste burnt, from weighing or volume and moisture.
- Diesel or coal used alongside.
- Steam or heat delivered, if you split it between kilns and other uses.

## How to report

- Biogenic CO2: tonnes of dry wood x carbon content x 44/12, shown separately.
- CH4 and N2O: energy from wood x IPCC defaults, in Scope 1.
- Fossil support fuel: fully in Scope 1.

## Bought biomass

If you buy wood pellets or chips, the same rule applies; add their transport in Scope 3.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel, electricity and freight invoices into a dated, fingerprinted record per site, so each figure you send a buyer can be traced back to the documents behind it.
