# How does a chemical plant in Gajraula count CO2 from its coal boiler and captive power?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/gajraula-chemical-unit-coal-boiler-co2

Coal burnt for steam and captive power is Scope 1. Work it out from coal tonnes, calorific value and factor, using lab analysis where available. If the captive plant supplies power to other units, split its emissions by energy delivered, and count grid imports separately at 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh.

## Sources

- Coal for boilers and captive turbines.
- Grid imports and DG sets.
- Process CO2, if any.

## Captive power shared

If steam or power goes to a neighbouring unit, allocate by MWh or tonnes of steam supplied.

## Records

Coal invoices, weighbridge slips, lab reports and turbine logs.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads bills, fuel invoices and production records into dated, fingerprinted records, so the figure you send a buyer can be traced to its documents.
