# When will the new GHG Protocol corporate standard be published?

Not before late 2028. GHG Protocol says the joint GHG Protocol-ISO Corporate Standard is slated for publication in Q4 2028, after a consolidated public consultation on Scope 1, 2, 3 and actions and market instruments slated for Q2 2027. Until then, today's standards apply.

## The published timeline

- Q2 2027: one consolidated public consultation covering Scope 1, Scope 2, Scope 3 and actions and market instruments.
- Q4 2028: the joint GHG Protocol-ISO Corporate Standard, slated for publication.
- After that: an effective date, so there will be a gap between publication and the first year you must apply it.

## One date does not match

The Scope 2 status page puts actions and market instruments in the Q2 2027 consolidated consultation. The separate Actions and Market Instruments page says a formal consultation on that draft standard is planned for Q3 2027. Watch both pages.

## What applies until then

- GHG Protocol Corporate Standard for Scope 1 and the inventory.
- Scope 2 Guidance (2015) for location-based and market-based Scope 2.
- Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard.
- Programmes built on these, such as SBTi, CDP and BRSR, keep their own rules and dates.

## How to plan

1. Report 2026-27 and 2027-28 under the current standards, and name them in the report.
2. Read the Q2 2027 consultation, especially the Scope 2 market-based methods.
3. Keep interval meter data and certificate details now; they are hard to rebuild later.
4. Expect buyers to move only after a final standard and its effective date are out.
