# How much electricity does a Guntur chilli cold storage use per tonne stored?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/guntur-chilli-cold-storage-electricity-per-tonne

Divide monthly kWh by the tonne-months stored. A store using 60,000 kWh while holding 5,000 tonnes uses 12 kWh per tonne-month, about 8.5 kg CO2. Refrigerant top-ups are Scope 1 and can add more than people expect.

## What drives it

- Ambient heat: summer months use more.
- Door opening and loading practice.
- Set point and compressor efficiency.

## Refrigerant

Kg topped up × the refrigerant's GWP gives Scope 1. Ammonia has no GWP; HFCs have high ones.

## Example: one summer month

- 60,000 kWh ÷ 5,000 tonne-months = 12 kWh
- 12 × 0.710 = 8.5 kg CO2 per tonne-month

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads electricity bills, including kVAh, demand and solar export lines, into dated records with the units, factor and year behind every Scope 2 figure.
