# How should a factory count emissions from a park's zero liquid discharge effluent plant?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/hawassa-park-zld-effluent-emissions

If the park operates the plant and charges you a fee, its energy and treatment emissions are your Scope 3, Category 5, shared by your volume of effluent. Ask the park for kWh and chemicals per kilolitre treated. If your factory runs its own treatment, the energy is your Scope 1 and 2.

## Why it is not small

Zero liquid discharge uses evaporators and reverse osmosis, which take a lot of energy per kilolitre. On a clean grid the CO2 is modest, but on a diesel backup it is not.

## What to ask the park

- kWh per kilolitre treated.
- Fuel for evaporators, if any.
- Your share of volume by month.

## Records

Effluent volume readings and park invoices.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads electricity, fuel and boiler invoices into a dated, fingerprinted record per factory, so the figures a brand asks for can be traced back to the bills.
